Be FIRM, FAIR, and FRIENDLY. You need to display professionalism at all times in front of cadets. Cadets will not respect you if you do don't act like a role model. You can be friendly and still be strict on rules. Don't just yell rules - explain how to follow them.
Always have a BLUE pen on your person + a PHYSICAL notepad or sticky notes (Reasoning for BLUE pen: Most cadet/government application forms require blue pens for visibility when being photocopied.)
Correct any issues you see. This includes but is not limited to : Addressing rank when walking past you (CRITICAL TO SUCCESS OF CADETS) Improper drill movements/ uniform standards
FOLLOW UP! If you are making corrections, such as belts in the wrong direction, they should be FIXED ON THE SPOT. Watch them fix it. You are at fault if you are not fixing their issues, not them.
Have a wristwatch to tell time. Taking out your phone for time is not professional BUT keep your phone on your person (front pants pocket only)
When you are giving instructions, make sure everyone is listening before saying anything. Reprimand anyone who is still talking. Call them out. If you continue this action, cadets will listen to you easier. You should have power when talking to lower ranked cadets. You NEED to maintain control.
Time management is everything. If you know you are not going to complete your task within the time frame, politely ask for an extension. This should be 5 to 10 minutes prior, and NOT at the end of the time frame.
If you are a Flight Commander/Sergeant and above, you should be in control of your cadets at all times AND you must know where all your cadets are. They need to ask for your permission before doing anything.
